Yes, that approach is likely to work with the Kraken Lady, Faux News, and Ghouliani. But I doubt it is going to work very well with Trump.
My reasoning is that if he is hit with a $3 billion judgement, his idiot followers will just give him the money to pay it.

The article is about the power of civil suits that are going after the finances of the insurectionists so a different scenario that a DoJ prosecution. Plus, it gives a measure of justice in the form of cash to the people whose lives were ruined that day.

I'd feel a lot better about that statement if and when Mr. Trump is indicted and brought to trial.Rideback wrote: Sat Apr 02, 2022 11:21 am One of the things that distinguishes the US from Russia is the rule of law. The reality is that in a jury trial, all it is going to take to let the Orange One walk is one hard-core Trump supporter who doesn't care about the facts and just wants to make sure his guy wins. Prosecutors aren't dumb and can do the same math.

Re: Judge rules against Eastman & Trump
It isn't really just about stupid.
People have really good gyroscopes and poor compasses.
Read (or re-read) _1984_. Read about the Nazis: one interesting thing was how many highly educated people went all-in on that insanity. Read about Jim Jones and the People's Temple. Read about the McCarthy hearings and blacklists. Or read about the young college kids who volunteered to "help" a repressive dictatorship in Nicaragua in the 1980s.
Once people go in on an ideology, they usually go **all in**, no matter how stupid the end result is.

Judge rules against Eastman & Trump
'POLITICO reports on the ruling by U.S. District Judge David Carter, who wrote: “Based on the evidence, the Court finds it more likely than not that President Trump corruptly attempted to obstruct the Joint Session of Congress on January 6, 2021.”
Carter's ruling was written in the context of his order that Eastman release 101 emails previously withheld from the January 6 committee, because Eastman was improperly claiming he could withhold them due to executive privilege.
Judge Carter emphasized that Eastman knew the plan he hatched was likely illegal, but he went ahead with it anyway. That plan was to put up alternate electors who would certify a Trump win in states Biden won in order to throw the entire election to the House of Representatives.
He wrote in his opinion: “If Dr. Eastman and President Trump’s plan had worked, it would have permanently ended the peaceful transition of power, undermining American democracy and the Constitution. If the country does not commit to investigating and pursuing accountability for those responsible, the Court fears January 6 will repeat itself.”
Well, AMEN to that.
Now that a court has agreed that Trump likely committed a crime, can we please get to the part where justice is done?
UPDATE: Buzzfeed has more, including the quote from the judge that January 6th was "a coup in search of a legal theory." (from Crooks & Liars)
