Rebecca Solnit:
"Help! We're stuck in a horror movie where a Kennedy nepo baby zombie--lookit that broiled face sliding off its skull! those shipwreck eyes!--destroys healthcare and medical research for all of us. (Atop the massive cuts to Medicaid that will not only deprive tens of millions of healthcare but result in the closure of a lot of rural hospitals, impacting even more of us.)
As someone said this week, Kennedy is intervening in cancer research, on the side of cancer. And on behalf of infectious diseases too: I know people who had polio, smallpox, measles. They're serious and sometimes devastating, sometimes deadly. And preventable. Vaccines save lives. They work. The evidence is in. So is the evidence that RFK is a stupid monster.

RFK Jr. is targeting mRNA technology, a major scientific advancement that allowed for the rapid development of coronavirus vaccines.

Of all RFK Jr's dangerously wrong opinions - his attack on HPV vaccines is the worst (and that really is saying something)
HPV vaccines like Gardasil PREVENT cancer - so effectively that cervical cancer is on the way to ELIMINATION in places like Scotland, Sweden and Australia.

RFK Jr. is canceling $500M in mRNA vaccine research—the Nobel Prize‑winning technology that saved millions of lives during COVID and could prevent future pandemics, deadly flu, and even cancer.
This is an attack on innovation that will cost lives and make Americans sicker.

On his decision to end $500M worth of research on mRNA vaccines, RFK Jr. said:
“The the data show these vaccines fail to protect effectively against upper respiratory infections like COVID and flu”.
These vaccines saved 3.2M lives in the U.S.
He is running a disinformation op against Americans."

There goes our best shot at a universal flu vaccine or an HIV vaccine ...

Not to mention multiple other good things that could come from that technology, including treatment of certain chronic diseases and cancers.

Noteworthy that in RFK Jr's statement he says investment will be redirected yet he doesn't mention where that will be. I suspect the manuf of Ivermectin anticipates a windfall.
