Yeah, go for it. I would support a compassionate republic, kind of like the one AOC and Bernie are suggesting. But they are trying to work in a broken system that is not compassionate. So, as I say, major change, but not with the current non leaders that are currently in.

Yep, but who's system do we want? Autocracy as it is surely heading that way...unless something, sorta, major is done.
Yes, but what kind of autocracy? I'm not 100 percent confident that the People In Charge a capable of putting together a working autocracy. Some of that is because they seem to all be damned fools. Another piece is a bit more subtle and not as obvious.
We've had a lot of recent history watching countries with no democratic tradition try to make democracy work for them. The fact of the matter is usually they were very bad at it. We similarly have no experience in this country with autocracy or a dictatorship and it isn't likely anyone here knows enough to make one work.
One way or the other, the first American Republic is dead or dying. It doesn't seem likely we can bring it back to life. Probably it would be better to figure out what the second American Republic could look like.

This is exactly why I think it insufficient to merely go back to the way things were before. What we are seeing is that all institutions that should be stopping this madness are failing. It doesn't make sense to put a system that has utterly failed back in place.

.
“ Republican House speaker Mike Johnson suggested potentially defunding, restructuring or eliminating US federal courts as a means of pushing back against judicial decisions that have challenged Donald Trump’s policies.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Johnson, a former constitutional attorney, raised the prospect of congressional intervention in the court system.
“We do have the authority over the federal courts, as you know. We can eliminate an entire district court,” Johnson said.”

It is a stunning statement.
