A Plethora Of Lies
They’ll lie about the climate,
They’ll lie about the war,
They’ll lie so much
That you won’t know
What’s truthful anymore.
They'll lie about the forest,
They'll lie about the trees,
They'll gut the EPA
And bring the planet to her knees.
They’ll lie about your union,
They'll lie about your pay
They’ll claim that you are now part-time.
And take your benefits away.
They'll lie about your public school
And all the work they try to do,
They'll cut your funds,
Then starve you out
And blame the failure
All on you.
They’ll lie about your history,
All the crimes that they commit,
And they’ll rearrange what’s left
So all their crooked pieces fit.
They’ll lie about your right to choose,
About whom and how you love,
Then sit in pews in sacred space
And lie to God above.
They’ll lie about your health care,
They’ll lie about vaccines,
They’ll give what’s left to CEOs
And corporate machines.
They’ll lie about your neighbors,
They’ll lie about their kids,
They’ll turn them into monsters,
Making up the stuff they did.
Then at night they’ll come to get them
While you toss and turn awake,
Paralyzed with fear,
And forgetting what’s at stake.
Take all the history you haven’t learned,
Add all the fears
That they’ve produced,
Turn them into chickens
And watch them all come home to roost.
And when you finally add up their lies
There’ll be little left for you to do,
But count the ways
And count the days
Until they come for you.
You think that I exaggerate?
Well history holds the clue:
You think that things
Can’t get that bad,
When they invariably do.
