I found this article from 2022, where apparently a doctor couldn't tell the difference between a miscarriage and a medication-induced abortion:

The doctors have the intelligence and probably more than 2 cents worth. It's the moronic lawmakers that don't have the 2 cents. And it shouldn't be up to them to make or be involved in any of these decisions. Plus it sounds like they would be suspicious of women who have miscarriages at home.
Yeah, anyone with 2 cents or less should know an ectopic pregnancy is non vialble and the mothers life can be in jeorpardy. The doctors and hospitals say they are "afraid" of getting in trouble. BS to that.
Kudos to those brave women in Texas.

How specifically do you tell the difference between the two after the fact? Keep in mind that the medications are inexpensive and available over-the-counter and on the internet and don't need a prescription in the civilized parts of this country (in Texas and Idaho you can probably be executed for possessing mifepristone).

Having personally observed women friends both have miscarriages and have medically induced abortions I'd say that as an outside observer it is hard to tell the difference. There is usually lots of vomiting involved. One woman friend of mine described it as "the worst period imaginable."

It is kind of hard for men to discuss this topic with a straight face without sounding like obnoxious piglets. Except piglets are cuter.

Jingles, I'm sure the rape and incest victims will not appreciate your sentiment, as will the women who need D&C's, and the women whose lives are threatened by their pregnancy. And then there's the men who would prefer to just walk away from any participation in parenthood.

While you're busy defending them perhaps you'd like to consider what Whole Life is. Protecting life doesn't stop upon birth. It means providing day care, health care, education and a safety net.

From a practical standpoint, about a third of pregnancies end in miscarriages. Under these wacko laws all such miscarriages should be investigated as possible crimes. Where will the tax dollars come to pay for those investigations?
Anyone with 2 cents worth of intelligence knows the difference between a miscarriage and a chemically induced abortion. As far as who is going to pay for the investigation it will be the same people paying millions if not billions to planned parenthood.
Additionally for those that don't want to be bothered with a child don't do the deed

As I replied, the Sept 10 debate is on ABC and was agreed to by Harris but Trump backed out saying he had only agreed to debate Biden but the wording in the contracts did not specify Biden by name, only reference was to the Dem Party candidate. So now he's folded and said ok. The Sept 6 was one he had suggested and wanted on Fox. That was a debate he wanted INSTEAD of the agreed upon Sept 10. It has since faded away as do able. The Sept 25 date with NBC is under negotiation and the date has not been agreed to.

The other network of course is CNN which hosted the Biden/Trump debate.

btw, your name calling is laughable.

Nope! More lies, Trump stated 3 debates in Sept. on 3 different networks from the Mar-a-lago speech a few days ago. You are a utter partisan hack useful idiot media hag.

No, he agreed to the Sept 10 debate with the Dem candidate. He assumed the debate would be with Biden, but the contract wording only specified the party candidate, no names were mentioned. So when Harris became the candidate it threw Trump into a tizzy which is why he suddenly proposed the earlier Sept debate, but he wanted it switched from the agreed upon ABC to his home turf of Fox. Harris responded that the Sept 10, ABC format had already been agreed upon and that's where she would show up. Eventually Trump caved.

The 3 debates Trump/you refer to include the June debate on CNN. The ABC debate 9/10 stands and the Sept 25 NBC debate has not be formalized.

Trump is afraid of the debates, just go ask him! The Sept 10 debate was agreed upon by both parties until Trump bailed.
Nice try to excuse Trump's conviction of sexual abuse and affair with a porn star that he paid hush money to by whatabouting Harris' dating Willie Brown who, by the way, just yesterday says that she was the one who broke it off but that he remains a steadfast supporter.

Well Kackles came to prominence using her ‘talents’ with Willie Brown (and Montel Williams etc.) so kinda apropos! Why is she terrified of 3 debates like what happens every presidential race?

Trump not only is having memory problems but his aircraft seems to be having memory problems as they can't remember how to work. Trump's fantastical tale of an emergency helicopter landing with Willie Brown falls apart as he is stuck on the tarmac in MT while his current aircraft has mechanical problems.

You seem to be arguing that irresponsible (and possibly immoral) people should be punished with a baby they do not want. Since when did a child become a punishment?

Irresponsible people are unlikely to be good parents. As are women who do not wish to have children. Children born to such parents are very unlikely to become productive members of society. Yes, some of them will and we will probably lose some Einsteins and Beethovens, but that is an inefficient and cruel way to produce Einsteins and Beethovens.

We bluntly have enough problems with badly raised children and irresponsible parents. The forced birth people seem to be arguing for more of them. I can't see how that will create a better society or even one I'd want to live in.

Not being the owner and operator of a uterus I don't really have a dog in this fight. But I do have some practical and legitimate concerns, I think:

1. Public health and public policy decisions should not be made based on junk "science" and misinformation.

2. This is an inappropriate use of the law and our criminal justice system. Biology is messy in many ways and doesn't align perfectly with our moral and ethical models of how the world should work. The only appropriate way to deal with this issue is by letting individuals (women) at the center of it make their own decisions guided by the best medical advice and medical ethics available.

3. The logical end point of where these whack jobs want to go is to outlaw any sexual expression not directly intended for procreation. That doesn't sound very fun and bluntly for all of us here the vast majority of the sexual acts we ever participated in had nothing to do with procreation. So we're all deviants and criminals under this world view. So even if pregnant women are the current target we are all eventually targets of this sick ideology.

Jingles, David states it clearly. A miscarriage could be construed as criminal under these draconian laws. Tracking a woman's period? Tracking pregnant women?
Jingles, be a woman. Of course I am concerned about abortion rights. The government has no rigtht to meddle in a woman's decision about her body. You want it both ways. You cry about too much gov't regulation, only when it comes to what matters to you.
In no way do I believe in abortion at the end of the 9 months, unless the mother were to die in childbirth and then to me that is not abortion. That is saving the life of the mother.
After a woman has carried a baby for 7-9 months, do you really think she would want to eliminate it? Most would not. Maybe there are some that would. Nope, too late for that if she thinks it is inconvenient.

Except the right-wing kooks don't want exceptions under any circumstances. And at the same time many of the pro-life wackos demonstrate an appalling ignorance of both biology and how it applies to human females. In any other context it would be hilarious but it is merely tragic.

The laws in places like Idaho and Texas are literally killing women and babies. Infant and maternal mortality rates in both Idaho and Texas are much higher than before these kooky laws were put into place. Physicians are refusing to treat high-risk pregnancies because they could be charged with a crime.

From a practical standpoint, about a third of pregnancies end in miscarriages. Under these wacko laws all such miscarriages should be investigated as possible crimes. Where will the tax dollars come to pay for those investigations?

Pearl you seem to be obsessed with abortion rights, and am curious at what point should abortions be prohibited and for what reasons should they be permitted or should there be no limits and for any and all reasons.
OK at time of birth? Because mother decided she doesn't want to be bothered with a child?

Yes I am in favor of Pro life, well maybe a better term is anti unrestricted abortions, as I believe that in the case of rape, incest and in the cases that child's birth could kill the mother abortions should be allowed, up until end of 2nd trimester, but just because a couple did not use precautions and the woman got pg is not a viable excuse nor because the baby may have some form of Diability/handicap.

Well, if he has broken with the MAGA crowd, all right by me. But past statements about abortion are concerning. People do change their minds however and see the light.

Washington attorney general and sheriff who helped nab Green River Killer fight for governor’s seat

Post by pasayten »

I am voting Dave Reichert... :-)
Washington attorney general and sheriff who helped nab Green River Killer fight for governor’s seat
Story by HALLIE GOLDEN, Associated Press, KIRO 7 News Staff

Washington state’s longtime attorney general and a former sheriff known for his work hunting down the Green River Killer are vying to become the next governor of a Democratic stronghold that hasn’t had an open race for the state’s top job in more than a decade.

Democrat Bob Ferguson, who has served as attorney general since 2013, will face former U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert in Tuesday’s primary election in a race that has featured weeks of intense sparring between the two frontrunners in a field of more than two dozen candidates.

Ferguson has framed Reichert, a Republican, as a two-faced candidate whose more moderate rhetoric during this campaign does not align with statements he has made in private or his actions in Congress. Meanwhile, Reichert has painted Ferguson as a candidate who wouldn’t change anything about the state, while providing a continuation of “one-party rule.”

In a state with a long reputation as solid Democratic territory that hasn’t had a Republican governor in nearly 40 years, any conservative candidate faces an uphill battle. But polling shows Reichert not far behind Ferguson and the race is considered competitive.

Under Washington’s primary system, the top two vote getters in each of Tuesday’s races advance to the November election, regardless of party. Experts predict a Ferguson and Reichert matchup in November.

Military veteran Semi Bird also is a key figure in the race after being endorsed by the Washington State Republican Party. But he has become a polarizing figure amid accusations of mischaracterizing his military service, as well as a guilty plea to bank larceny in 1993 for putting his father’s name and social security number on a credit application. Bird said he has not been convicted of a crime since then and regrets what he did.

Democrat Mark Mullet, a state senator from Issaquah, also has garnered attention as a moderate candidate who would bring the perspective of a small business owner.

The success of a Republican candidate in the governor’s race will depend on their ability to build crossover appeal to independent voters and moderate Democratic voters, said Sandeep Kaushik, a Democratic political consultant with Sound View Strategies.

“The only way a Republican can win a statewide race in Washington state is if they convince voters in the middle of the state, who lean blue, that they’re a different kind of Republican and willing to meet those voters halfway, willing to break with MAGA, break with the Republican Party,” he said. “Reichert has done none of that, so far as I can see.”

The campaign between Ferguson and Reichert has consistently focused on abortion. Ferguson’s team often references Reichert’s history of voting for a nationwide ban on abortion starting at 20 weeks of pregnancy as evidence of him being “wildly out of touch with the majority of Washingtonians.”

Abortion has long been legal in Washington until viability, a determination left up to the judgement of a health care provider, and after that in cases where the pregnant individual’s health or life is threatened.

Reichert has pushed back on Ferguson’s characterization and said his only plan for the state’s abortion law if elected governor is to enforce and support it. He accused Ferguson of trying to scare women into not voting for him.

Reichert said as governor he would prioritize public safety, referencing his 33 years and two terms as sheriff at the King County Sheriff’s Office and the dozens of sheriffs who have endorsed him.

He was the first King County detective assigned to the case of the Green River Killer, named for the waterway where the first bodies were found in 1982. Gary Ridgway, who killed 49 women, was arrested and convicted in 2003 during Reichert’s second term as sheriff.

Reichert said he also would focus on curbing homelessness, as the Seattle area has one of the nation’s highest rates of homelessness. He suggested moving people from the streets to state-owned land, including McNeil Island, where a facility for sexual predators is located.

“You tell me which one is more ridiculous: Living under a freeway in tents or maybe making a nice, warm, comfortable place on McNeil Island or Evergreen College,” he told The Associated Press.

Ferguson was endorsed by state Democratic leadership members including U.S. Senate Pro Tempore Patty Murray and Gov. Jay Inslee, the longest serving governor in office in the country, who is not seeking a fourth term. Ferguson points to his record as attorney general, including reaching multimillion-dollar settlements with major opioid entities and standing up to former President Donald Trump.

But Republican state Rep. J.T. Wilcox said people in Washington state may be looking for a major leadership change after three terms of Inslee.

“Presidents usually leave office not at a high point, but at a point when people are sort of ready for them to be gone,” Wilcox said. “I think that that may have happened a little bit with Gov. Inslee. Twelve years, people feel like, ‘OK we’ve had all this, I’m getting tired of all the same rhetoric, maybe it is time for a change.’”

Washington is a vote-by-mail state and many voters have already cast their ballots before election day.
