Under normal circumstances I'd agree that things would likely be resolved very soon.

But fall of 2025 is Not Normal.

I was listening to a NPR piece on the shutdown….it reminded me the last ‘longest’ shutdown ended when air-traffic controllers - who were not getting paid - quit showing up for work…and that prompted Congress to finally act. We probably are not far off from that now.

I have a family member who is a Federal meat inspector for APHIS/USDA, back east in a major meat processing area - Ohio/Kentucky/Indiana. They aren’t getting paid, but required to work. He says he and his co-workers are starting to ‘sick-out’, not show up, etc.

No inspections at slaughter houses or meat processing facilities? Then nothing moves downstream to the grocery store; beef, chicken, pork, lunch meat, canned products, etc etc.
AND animals ready for slaughter get backed up in the feed yards and still have to be fed and cared for; an expense for the owners that doesn't translate into a better price.

This could go on for a very long time.

Probably the most likely way this all ends is that a catastrophic event both makes all of our elected officials look like dingbats and forces them to do their jobs, and they will quietly reopen the government on an expedited basis to deal with some new emergency.

We should all keep in mind that the bill on the table only keeps the government open through November 21st.

This could easily go on past the end of the year.

He tells people he is both the President and the Speaker. Along those lines Johnson has taken his cue from Trump and now that this shutdown is the longest in history he's telling media that Congress will not be in session this coming week.
