What I find entertaining about this debate is that lots of communities and even some fairly large towns in BC and Alberta coexist with Grizzly bears without much inconvenience. Or any at all.
If you cross-country ski very much, you've probably been to Silver Star near Vernon. That place is a pretty major bear metropolis and you are likely to see a bear there if you are skiing in late spring. They often have a brief May opening at Sovereign Lakes and again that is a place you are likely to run into a bear. And I've never heard of a skier being attacked by one.
There is a lot of ranching there and the grizzly bears don't seem to be able to put them out of business. Maybe the Canadians are just tougher than Americans.
