The Ebola outbreak has been concerning, particularly when Musk fired our team, then said he rehired but didn't. Thanks to the anti vaxers measles will soon be a national issue, then there's the TB outbreak as well.
There's been some great books in the past decade following outbreaks and 'spillover'. I follow David Quammen pretty closely because he's a good explainer and has a network of scientists that are top notch. Doesn't hurt that he has been a Nat'l Geographic writer for decades so he's seen first hand where too many of these diseases take hold.
Meanwhile, Trumpanzees kill children.

My wife is a specialist DVM (Canine nutrition is her field) and a former University Professor/Clinician. She has an old friend who is a DVM/PhD Veterinary Epidemiologist who works for a small group - based in Paris - WOAH (World Org for Animal Health). The friend and her colleagues study, monitor and track epizootic/zoonotic diseases; those diseases that can and do make the species jump from animals, both wild and domestic, to humans. They do so across many National borders and across many scientific specialities.
You can read about WOAH here:
https://www.woah.org/en/home/ or here
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_O ... mal_Health
WOAH - a very small organization - is not part of the WHO or the UN….I dont believe. It is right in the front of ‘bird’ flu and other fun stuff (Rabies, hoof and mouth, etc) that are right on our doorstep. I am fuzzy on how this organization is funded. But, regardless, my wife’s friend (a US citizen) thinks the lack of participation and sharing of information, among scientists everywhere, is going to have DIRE consequences going forward. She leads the Information Analysis function for that organization.
The US pulling back from participation in the world of science is not going to end well.

It is just a matter of time before something, somewhere, goes very wrong. I suspect we'll lose more than a million people this time.

I suggest signing in for the freebie unless you have an account. This is chilling. We might be going down.

RFK Jr's promotion of using Cod Liver Oil and Vit A rather than vaccines have consequences.
