We lived in Bartlesville on 2 separate times in the 50s and 60s….my Dad worked for an oil company there. I dont have fond memories!
(Neither did mhy Mom - she threatened to leave my Dad when it looked like they were moving there for a third time in the late 70’.)

One of my boyfriends mother had polio when she was growing up and I saw how it affected her. A pronounced limp. And then later in her life other symptoms started showing up again. I think that happened alot. I thought later symptoms showing up was talked about a number of years ago. There will be too much backlash and Congress will never let the polio vaccine be taken away. I truly believe that. I did see a news blurb that Trump is going to talk to RFK about that view.
What part of Oklahoma Jim? I lived in Claramore and had relatives elsewhere in the state. I know the state well and have very fond memories of it.
If you can believe it.

In 1960 our family moved from Canada back to the US. I was in the 4th grade.

We moved into a rental house in a small Oklahoma town - maybe slightly larger than Twisp, as I recall.

I was in a class at the school - which must have been in a School District about the size of our’s here.
In that one classroom there were 2 young girls who wore leg braces and walked - with great difficulty - using crutches; the effects of their battle with polio.

Most people, today, have never seen this. Are we going back?

You don't have to be a Canadian citizen to get vaccinated in Canada. There is a Shopper's Drug Mart in Osoyoos. You just need to make an appointment.

My own view is that the most effective way forward is both malicious compliance and uncivil obedience.

Also, this 1944 document from the OSS can be a useful source of inspiration, especially the later parts that talk about ways to cooperatively non-cooperate:

Rise and resist. Or just let them do it and see what kind of chaos and confusion ensues.
In addition, I saw a headline on Fox that said people want to shake up Wa. DC. But do the majority of people want vaccines taken away, especially polio? Oh, they're not gonna do that! Why should we trust RFK and this other guy who wants to eliminate the polio vaccine and more.

You know if people are going to be this messed up you can't really rescue them. Even helping them is basically enabling them to harm themselves more.

At least for the short term we will still be able to get vaccines on our own dollar. That doesn't completely solve the problem but we'll be far better off than the rubes who think vaccines are icky.
