Re: Trump vows 25% tariffs on Mexico, Canada
These proposed tariffs violate USMCA, which Donald Trump signed into law on 1 July 2020. He can't even obey his own laws.

The simple answer to your question lies in your own retreat into your comfort zone of disinformation. I can't imagine why it is that you prefer to turn your back on reality, your choice.

You fruit loops seem to enjoy pissing in the wind and getting it all over yourself and then blame the ‘other’ side! Why oh why did both the electoral college and popular vote go against such obvious success Biden/Harris had? (Sarcasm off)

In a separate follow-up post, he repeated that "Mexico will stop people from going to our Southern Border, effective immediately."
"THIS WILL GO A LONG WAY TOWARD STOPPING THE ILLEGAL INVASION OF THE USA. Thank you!!!" posted Trump.
Sheinbaum Pardo refuted Trump's claim on X, however, insisting she explained Mexico's comprehensive strategy to address illegal immigration while respecting human rights.
"Thanks to this, migrants and caravans are assisted before they reach the border," she said. "We reiterate that Mexico's position is not to close borders but to build bridges between governments and between peoples."
Critics of the president-elect seized on Sheinbaum Pardo's clapback.
"Trump thinks he convinced the President of Mexico to stop all migration across the border LOL," Mike Nellis, a former senior adviser to Kamala Harris, wrote on Bluesky.

Re: Trump vows 25% tariffs on Mexico, Canada
We have a track record to go with.
Last time these dingleberries were in power they tried to implement the "Muslim ban". This went precisely nowhere and there never was more than a short-term ban. Yes, it was very disruptive to the people who were temporarily banned but in the end it was a great deal of noise, signifying nothing at all.
Remember the wall on the Mexican border? The one Trump promised "Mexico would pay for"? Well, we paid for 52 miles of new wall, covering about 2.7 percent of the whole US-Mexican border. And again we paid for it. I understand that new wall is crumbling.
Blowhards and bullies can always be counted upon to make extravagant threats and claims. They are not to be taken seriously.
Again, I want to see them even try to do the things they are talking about doing. The sooner they start and the harder they try the more spectacular the failures will be. Better to have that large, spectacular failure early on.

France tariff rates for 2021 was 1.39%, a 0.09% decline from 2020. France tariff rates for 2020 was 1.48%, a 0.36% decline from 2019. France tariff rates for 2019 was 1.84%, a 0.01% increase from 2018. France tariff rates for 2018 was 1.83%, a 0.13% decline from 2017.
Yes, Pal, it's projection, it's also threatening and bullying. But because most of the world regards Trump as not just ignorant but also mentally unfit to hold the Presidency his threats are taken seriously.

It's all projection. It's what I meant by blathering. But we tend to want to see into the future but we can't know what will happen. But keeping the masses in line, and off balance. It is how autocrats, oligarchs, and dictators work.

Re: Trump vows 25% tariffs on Mexico, Canada
Of course this is all BS. My own guess on how this will go down:
On "day one" Trump will announce these tariffs and they will go in effect in sixty days. Unless Mexico and Canada "do something" about fentanyl smuggling or illegal immigrations.
Mexico and Canada won't do very much. Or they might do something. It doesn't really matter.
At the end of the sixty days The Donald declares victory and the tariffs do not go into effect.
One week later he threatens to do something else crazy...
It is important to realize that this is what abusive people do. They make extravagant and destructive threats all the time, both to keep their victims (all of us) off balance and to make sure they are the center of attention. And unfortunately We The People voted to put an abusive person in charge for the next four years. Now would be a good time to hide anything breakable.
To be honest reacting at all to this garbage just gives them more fuel and makes them feel powerful.

Europe uses tariffs like crazy so maybe they aren’t the boogyman you’re trying to make them?! I do RESPOND to all the anger, hate, vitriol and name calling I’ve RECEIVED here PAL, if the moderator doesn’t want this happening maybe he should actually manage it wherever it’s delivered and not be the utter partisan hypocrite he currently demonstrates.

Re: Trump vows 25% tariffs on Mexico, Canada
"End" almost seems like a naive word these days.
The housing market, big box stores, appliances, car manufacturing, apparel...they're all starting to reply that tariffs and even the threat of tariffs like this will be catastrophic. Since we import gas from Canada there's an impact there as well.
The counter tariffs will be the double whammy of course and then while all this starts to boil over Mexico, China and Canada will, by necessity, be looking to create new trade partnerships to fill the gaps the US trade left. Of course in order for Trump to fulfill his threat he'll have to break treaties, but then he is the new king.

Ken, if you could just leave out the name calling, I might actually read and hear what you have to say. But then you throw out your hostile,"Dips**t" and then that's all I see of you. You have no need to be angry do you? You've gotten what you think you want. Maybe you'll be less hostle once Trump gets sworn in. Right now he is not president.

So you think raising the prices on grocery items by 25%, lumber prices jacked up is going to be worth it eh?

'Donald Trump said on Monday he would sign an executive order imposing a 25% tariff on all products coming in to the United States from Mexico and Canada.
“On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Trump said the tariffs would remain in place until the two countries clamp down on drugs, particularly fentanyl, and migrants crossing the border illegally.'
