With climate change actively impacting agriculture now, availability, prices and quality are in play. Whether its corn and wheat from the midwest, bananas from Central America, fruit from the PNW or produce in the central valley of Calif, everything is caught up in the change.

That's a whole nother post about fried brain cells. I know quite a number of people who were or are in pain, and they suffered from the effects of the painkillers. These are regular good folks in the Valley. Brain chemistry got messed up and they could not make choices.

You'd be surprised when you actually offer a panhandler a 6 to 8 hr job. In my experience 8 out of 10 say they can't or won't what's next? Wish them a goodday and drive away, as far as a lot of mental illness have to disagree that it it actual mental illness problems it is fried brain cells from drugs and they feel that they are privileged and society will take care of them and they are right society does pander to them rather than tell them to get their schit together and straighten up. Or it is the results of as kids they were treated for this disorder or that disorder with drugs that messed up their heads and became spoiled brats

Right. Helping and caring for our fellow human beings is a good thing. It is certainly not socialism as the right would say. It's a hand up as you say, not hand outs. It used to be when someone was panhandling for money, I had friends that would make them earn it. Like, tell us a joke, a story, sing a song, etc.
The panhandler would usually come up with something.
But note, we have alot of mental illness and some have been forgotten and just cannot cope. The brain chemistry is wonky in alot of cases.

Give aid to people to water a garden instead of lawns? If people are getting aid to water their lawns maybe those more worried about green lawns should convert their lawns to gardens that way they could eat instead of depending on others to feed them selves and families. Additionally, vegetables do not need large plots of ground to grow, containers can and do work.
Big community gardens can and do work providing there is a security fence and 24 hour security otherwise one individuals hard work goes home in someone else's food basket, speaking from experience on that. Breaks down to people taking responsibility for their own well being and being held accountable for their decisions and actions.
I am a firm believer that the fortunate that can help others in need with a HAND UP NOT A HAND OUT should it be absolutely needed. But like the signs in the national parks reads something like
Do NOT feed the animals as they become dependent on handouts yet the government ans organizations continue to give handouts
Another important saying is
"Give a man a fish and he has a meal, teach a man to fish and he can feed himself for a lifetime."
If a person either can't or won't take responsibility for their decisions and actions maybe they get what they deserve, shortened life span
Maybe that last sentence is cold hearted but it is reality

Totally agree. However water rates in Twisp are quite high. If somehow people could be aided watering a garden instead of a lawn. Or a big community garden, etc. Solutions helpful.
