I'll bite. Here's one for the legislative candidates.

Background: Increased wildfire risk has led to dramatic increases in the cost of homeowners insurance, many insurers leaving the market altogether, and making it impossible to insure some properties and some locations at any price. Much of the local economy is built around buying and selling and building homes. If you can't insure that home (or can't do it at a reasonable price) you can't get a home loan.

Q: What actions state legislature take to mitigate this problem? Ideally we'd want a solution that would keep multiple insurers in the market and provide insurance at affordable prices.

Have any questions for the candidates forum Monday at the Grange?

Post by pasayten »

Hi Ray, as i just explained - our grange is happy to have community members help us compile questions for these forums.

I know our turnout is not likely to be great for this primary election…. But we feel the primaries are just as important to this process as the general in November.

My recollection is that you have a background with the OCEC. So you may be a good person to tap for questions for this race. Doing a forum with three separate races is challenging, but it’s the reality of what are contested races in this local election.

The two State Legislators positions are where i think we are most need of a few more good questions. We give our moderator a list of the questions that we solicit and they use their judgement to fit in as much as we can in the time frame.

I’ll attach the flyer to help you know what the format of this forum is.

With my regards and thanks,

Dear Candidates,

We are anticipating this forum and looking forward to meeting you. We told you to expect two prepared
questions. You’ll find them at the bottom of this page.

PREPARED QUESTION # ONE - FOR ST. LEGISLATOR - po*. ONE: This the usual Opening Statement -
but besides your background - please include why you want to represent this large area of Northeast
Washington AND the skills that will make you a good legislator.

PREPARED QUESTION # TWO - The St Supreme Court has ruled that Washington State’s Capital Gains Tax
is not in violation of the state’s constitution, finding it to be an excise tax rather than an income tax. The
legislation provides for the standard deduction of $250,000 for individual.
What is your position regarding this Capital Gains Tax?
So... anybody have some good questions to ask the candidates?

I will start off...

1. The State of Washington is not funding schools at an acceptable level. What is your position on this and how would you resolve it?

2. The State of Washington does not currently have a statewide private school choice program in operation (school vouchers). What is your position on this?
