Re: Trump bombs Iran, what could possibly go wrong?

Oh, and I just bought an EV (but not a blue Tesla) last week and it might have been a smarter decision that I would have otherwise thought.

Re: Trump bombs Iran, what could possibly go wrong?

Yes, they are "using AI" but probably not as an overall battle management and information system like the Ukrainians have done. And the Ukrainians are very much in the baby steps phase with that. And such a system has very little to do with what Anthropic does.

I also suspect that nearly all ...

Re: Anthropic 'a supply chain risk'?

I think this sets an interesting precedent. Amongst the companies that might be labeled a supply chain risk in the future include:

Palantir
Oracle
Xai, X, Tesla, SpaceX

Although I'd bet they will nationalize SpaceX...

When you put the pieces together, isn't it kind of alarming that the Secretary of Defense was picking this particular fight the same week that he apparently was planning military operations against Iran?

Re: Anthropic 'a supply chain risk'?

I think the challenge for "replacing" Anthropic will not so much be with the AI itself but the tooling and infrastructure around it. If that stuff is already embedded in someone's systems it is going to be a Big Job to un-embed it.

Actually there is an interesting related question here. If you or ...

From a practical standpoint it is hard to see how a foreign student could even enroll, much less attend classes or have on-campus housing, unless they had their visa in order.

I have to wonder about the claim of a revoked visa in 2016. Was it even the same person?

Re: Anthropic 'a supply chain risk'?

One of the things to highlight here is that Anthropic's products are the only one approved for use in classified networks. So in a way they have DOD over a barrel.

And using the DPA to force Anthropic to provide their product to the US government is a remarkably stupid idea. What you are talking ...

They are still at it

Last week, in Buffalo, Border Patrol agents scooped up a refugee named Nurul Amin Shah Alam. They quickly learned he was in the country legally and not deportable. So they released him—in the parking lot of a closed Tim Horton’s, miles from both his home and the county jail where they’d picked him ...

Medical use of AI has already determined that AI still needs human oversight.

There aren't any applications of AI where human oversight isn't required to ensure safety.

The problem is a human factors one. A system which performs acceptably 95 percent of the time but otherwise fails, often ...

There is a little-known Compatibility Mode on modern Windows that lets you run many Windows NT binaries.

There are also hard drive recovery services that might be able to help you for a price.

The moral of the story is that investing in an inexpensive ($75-$150) external hard drive and religiously ...

Re: Anthropic 'a supply chain risk'?

One of the things that really disturbs me about this whole mess is that somehow DOD cares about surveilling US citizens in the United States. Which I didn't think was in their wheelhouse.

On AI weapons. In certain cases the ship has already sailed and there is zero barrier to entry. Advanced ...

Also standard-issue Republican: when we do X, we are exercising our god-given constitutional rights. When they do X, they are seditious filth.

Double standards are a clear indicator of abusive people.

You talk like Trump is a king, not head of a co-equal branch of government. Congress is not subservient to the President. At least until now anyhow.

And keep in mind that Congress is the Article I branch of government. Your orange guy is Article II.

Oh, and having people keep standing and clapping ...

Well, if the old computer won't boot the most likely reason is that the hard drive is damaged.

Depending on how badly damaged it is, you might be able to recover some stuff, including programs. But you probably will have to spend quite a bit of time and possibly a fair amount of money to do that ...

Re: Anthropic 'a supply chain risk'?

All of the dedicated AI companies are spending far, far more than they are taking in revenue. And it is unclear to me if they can ever get to break even. My own guess is the clock is ticking and we are careening towards a reckoning.

As an example, it is estimated that Anthropic would need to ...

One thing that is missing here is that the overwhelming sentiment of engineers and scientists working in the field most anywhere, not just at Anthropic, is that developing AI powered weapons is a Very Bad Idea. And there are serious mathematical reasons why AI-enhanced mass surveillance probably can ...

I find it humorous how they will describe Trump as "20 points underwater" to make it sound less bad than 40 percent approval and 60 percent disapproval. It is also extremely interesting how is overall approval/disapproval, as bad as it is, is still far better than approval/disapproval for specific ...
